Black History Month: Our History. Our Strength.

You don’t want to miss any of the exciting events we have planned for Black History Month this year. From amazing guest speakers to fantastic music – you won’t want to miss a week’s celebration. Be sure to bookmark this page (thenorthchurch.is/blackhistory) and visit it often for all of the updates!

Let’s start by discussing our guest speakers. On February 4, we’ll have Dr. Abraham Jules – president of the Northeastern Conference of Seventh-day Adventists with us. Dr. Jules originally hails from Trinidad & Tobago, and he’ll be helping us celebrate our Caribbean heritage.

Dr. Otis Moss, Jr. – a most highly respected pioneer in our struggle for equal rights, and pastor emeritus at the Olivet Institutional Baptist Church in Cleveland, Ohio – will be with us on February 11 as we focus on the history of our civil rights. There is still a lot of work left for us to do, and Dr. Moss will encourage us to move forward with strength.

We are beyond thrilled that Dr. Lance Watson – senior pastor of The Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia – will speak for our African American heritage celebration on February 18. Dr. Watson is the pastor of one of the fastest growing churches in North America, and he will remind us of the important role the church has played and will continue to play in our history.

We will close the month out under the ministry of Elder J. Alfred Johnson, Jr – Director of Adult Ministries for the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventists. We will celebrate our church’s history and ensure that we are on the right path moving forward.

howard-gospel-choir-4Strong preaching is always enhanced by strong music, and we know you will enjoy the music we have planned for you. Our praise teams will continue to lift our voices in worship each week, and we will be inspired by the ministry of our own NPSDAC United Voices choir. On February 18, come out and enjoy the high-spirited energy of the Howard University Gospel Choir – they will sing during our 11 o’clock service, and will be in full-concert at 4:00 p.m. We will close out the month by presenting the award-winning male group, Committed.

Please – don’t keep all this goodness to yourself! Plan to bring a friend with you each week as we celebrate our people and our culture during Black History Month!
