2 Timothy 2:15 says “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (KJV). An easier reading of the text may come from the ESV: Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.
Have you ever felt ashamed because you weren’t sure how to answer a question someone had about the Bible? Have you wanted to study the Bible, but just didn’t know what that meant? Do you just read the Psalms? Do you need a concordance? A study Bible? An understanding of Greek and Hebrew?
Over the next few weeks, we will look at how we should study the Bible, so that we can be confident about sharing God’s truth with our family and friends. We’ll learn what we need to do to receive God’s stamp of approval.
Oh – be sure to bring your Bibles with you – after all, a workman needs his/her tools, right? It can be a hardcopy Bible or an electronic version on the device of your choosing – just make sure you have one with you!
